HOW TO TRANSLATE A FILE USING SMARTCAT TOOL
1.
Open smartcat.com
website on our computer/tablet. It actually works on any device including
smartphones, yet the User Experience (UX) is best on computer and tablets.
2.
Change our
account type into manager so that we can have more features of the smartcat
tools
3.
Click
“projects” on the left bar menu
4.
Click
“create a project” to make any project with any file (doc or pdf)
5.
Click
“translate a file” so that we can start translating using machine translation
6.
Choose the
source language and target language
7.
Make sure
we have prepared the file to be translated (doc or pdf), then choose the file
to be uploaded on smartcat
8.
Click “get
result” to have automatic/machine translated result
How to do post editing on our file
9.
After we
have the machine translated result, click on the folder icon
to see our project
10.
Click
“open” to open the machine translated result. It will bring us to the post
editing page
11.
Now we can
edit the machine translated text. Later
on, glossary is needed to make the target text consistent
How to download ST and TT in
bilingual format or in other formats

To get ST
and TT in bilingual format, choose down arrow on the right side of the
“download” symbol
13.
Click
“BILINGUAL DOCX” so that it will download source text and target text in a form
of a table of two column (source text and target text)
14.
We can
also download other formats rather than only the bilingual version. We just
need to choose what kind of file format on the download menu
How to make and download glossary

To make
glossary, change our account type into manager so that we have more features of
the smartcat tools
16.
Click
“linguistic assets” on the left bar menu to access the menu
17.
Click
“glossary” to access the feature
18.
Click
“create glossary” to create the glossary
19.
There are
two columns (source language n target language) Add source text terms and
target text terms manually on the table.

To
download the glossary, click “download” and it will automatically download the
glossary in excel format file.
21.
To use
glossary, we need to make sure that the glossary is checked. Go to “projects”,
choose the file and click “go to project”
22. There will be 3 dots on the top right of the sub-bar. Click the three dots, then click, ”linguist assets”
23.
Check the
box in which the glossary is going to be used to activate the glossary on our
project that is being worked on
How to make and download translation
memories
24.
To make
translation memories, change our account type into manager so that we have more
features of the Smartcat tool
25.
Click
“linguistic assets” on the left bar menu
26.
Click
“translation memories”
27.
Click
“create TM” or we can edit the translation memories by clicking the “edit”
button
28.
To
download it in .tmx file, click “export” and it will automatically download the
TM file
